The biggest question after the show(s) was: why is it 30fps on Xbox Series X and Series S and not 60fps? In this IGN Performance preview, we dive into the details shared by the team, the revealed PC minimum and recommended specifications, and how the Creation Engine 2 works, comparing the previous games to gauge some of the potential reasons why the team might have chosen 30fps. With Starfield being the center of the Xbox 2023 Showcase last week, Bethesda gave us a deep dive into one of the biggest games this generation. Even a download play option would have been nice. We would have loved to play with our friends and compete against them. There is an Endless Mode in this game, but still no multiplayer. It was a problem with the first game and it's annoying that it's still in the sequel.
All too often we baked the wrong cake or picked the wrong frosting. It's a minor annoyance compared to the too small buttons on all the machines. The original gameplay screen for the PC game doesn't fit on the DS, so the screen has to scroll a tiny bit to get to the farther objects. Add on to all of this that the game is just too cramped on the DS. Cake Mania 2 is a game designed for people that loved the first one, but when there have already been 80 levels of the same game released a year ago, the experience is stale right out of the oven. It's fine since if you like the gameplay you'll know that you're going to keep liking it for the rest of the game. The thing about Cake Mania as a game is that you've pretty much experienced the entire game after only a few levels. Jill has a few new gadgets that make the job a little quicker, but nothing that changes the gameplay enough to feel fresh. How is that penguin going to eat cake with those wing-flippers? Unfortunately these minor visual swapouts are the biggest change in the game, since the new gameplay features do little to alter the experience.
So instead of a guy in an Easter Bunny suit there's now an identical looking guy in a penguin suit. Sure, all the venues and customers have been switched out, but that's completely aesthetic. In fact, pretty much everything is the same as Cake Mania 1. Click on a new customer to give him a menu, click on the oven to bake their chosen cake, click on the froster to frost the cake, etc ad nauseam. Players use the stylus in lieu of the mouse to click on the various appliances and customers. Customers queue up with demands for cake and Jill has to fill those orders to make enough money to keep the bakery open for another month. The gameplay is exactly the same as the previous game and the PC version. Jill stays in each bakery for a year, with each month being a level and helps turn the bakeries into successful business that only serve cake. The single player mode offers a branching story line across six different bakeries. Cake Mania 2 follows the continuing adventures of Jill, the cake baking goddess.
